EccoGravel

Gravel is popular, it has one major drawback, however. If it is frequently walked or driven on, the gravel can start to shift. The comfort of the gravel surface can suffer greatly as a result.

 

Past Solutions

You can choose gravel with many fine particles. This will make a firm gravel surface (e.g. a gravel type of 0-5 mm or 0-15 mm). However, finer particles reduce water permeability. This results in puddles, pits and ruts, and fine particles sticking to shoes…

 

Solution: ECCOgravel Gravel Grids

The gravel is held in place by the ECCOgravel gravel grids and the grids are covered with a top layer of gravel. This results in a functional and stable gravel surface that looks sleek and modern and is perfectly water-permeable. ECCOgravel is a gravel stabilisation grid with a very high compressive strength both filled and unfilled and has the most sophisticated bonding techniques. The polyester geotextile is thermally bonded, which reduces the risk of gravel getting underneath the gravel grid to zero.

ECCOgravel grids are available in:

– 3 colours: white, grey and black

– 2 heights: 3 cm and 4 cm

 

The 3 cm and 4 cm ECCOgravel gravel grids have similar properties (torque resistance, compressive strength, flexibility, …). However, the weight distribution onto the foundation is better with a 4 cm grid than with the 3 cm one.

 

Example 1. You put a sheet of paper on your hand and hit it with a hammer. 2. You put a phone book on your hand and hit it with a hammer. Conclusion: the distributive force is better in the second case. Extend the same with ECCOgravel and then we may conclude that the foundation will be under less pressure when the grid is thicker. ECCOgravel 30 Double grids can be used for applications with cars, provided that the foundation is very strong. The extra cost for this additional reinforcement does not outweigh the savings on a thinner grid.

Frost-Resistant HDPE Gravel Grids

ECCOgravel gravel grids are frost-resistant and made of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene). Gravel stabilisation grids made of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) remain flexible at all times, even at frost temperatures down to -20°. Gravel grids manufactured from other materials could break at cold temperatures.

 

High Pressure Resistance

ECCOgravel gravel grids have a compressive strength in a filled state of up to 400 tonnes/m². Unfilled, the grids have a compressive strength of 90 tonnes/m². The compressive strength is important because it reflects to what extent the grid can be subjected to maximum loads. Thanks to the high compressive strength, an ECCOgravel gravel grid is extremely suitable for the construction of your driveway, parking lot, fire roads, etc.

 

High Torque Resistance

Not only the pressure resistance of a gravel grid is important, the torque resistance is also very important. When you are driving a car over gravel sheets, you are not only exerting pressure, but your manoeuvring (twisting and turning) also exerts torque forces on the substrate. Here too, the importance of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) comes into play: thanks to this composition, ECCOgravel grids remain flexible, which means they will not break or deform over time. Moreover, all ECCOgravel grids boast synthetic reinforcements between the honeycombs in order to enhance torque resistance.

 

High-Strength Geotextile

A great deal of attention is given not only to the composition of the plate itself; the anti-rooting mat (also called geotextile) is also selected with great care. This geotextile ensures that the pebbles do not end up underneath the plate. The geotextile for ECCOgravel grids is 100% bonded, preventing this issue from occurring here. In addition, the geotextile is manufactured from polyester, which is a high-strength material. Not only is the geotextile exceedingly strong, but it also has an open structure. This ensures that rainwater permeates into the substrate quickly, allowing your gravel surface to remain clean. Lastly, plants and grasses also have a harder time attaching, preventing the growth of weeds.

 

Different Colours

ECCOgravel gravel grids are available in white, grey or black.

Application

Drainbase can be easily installed in gardens as well as on roof terraces. A step-by-step installation guide for the tiles can be found in the text and video below.

 

STEP 1: Preparation
For regular applications (garden): Place a geotextile onto the sub-base. Provide a leveling layer of min. 5 cm of crushed stone 0-2, 0-4 or 2-4 properly sealed on top.

 

STEP 2: Installation of the tiles
Start against at the edge and work row by row. Cut the tiles to size with an disk cutter if necessary.

 

STEP 3: Connecting system
The unique connection system allows the tiles to shrink and expand within their own dimensions. It is important that the tiles are connected correctly; this means halfway through the connection system. Clicking should be smooth by applying light pressure.

 

STEP 4: Level foundation
To have an aesthetically pleasing result, it is important to have an even foundation.

 

STEP 5: Artificial grass
Roll out the artificial grass, keeping in mind the “viewing direction” when placing it and adjust the position of the fibers accordingly. Cut to size where necessary.

 

STEP 6: Fixing caps
Place fixing caps every 80 cm to 1 m or in places where you wish to secure the artificial grass additionally. When doing so, avoid the outermost row.

 

STEP 7: Fixing of the artificial grass
Screw the artificial grass in place using the bit and screws provided.

 

STEP 8: Final result
Brush the artificial grass and enjoy the end result.
